COVID-19 PROJECT
ESSE
OVERVIEW
The impact of the CVOID-19 has been widespread. As of May 14, 2020 World Meters reports over 4.5 million cases, of which over 300 thousand deaths, leaving many still in recovery, and many cases yet to be reported. The government has mandated the people to stay at home to flatten the curve of Coronavirus infections, allowing citizens to leave their homes only for essential needs, and exercise. Despite these orders, still some do not follow them. High-risk individuals put their lives in danger by going out and buying supplies for themselves or the ones they care for. In this design challenge we aimed to tackle two pressing problems. First, essential items collection for those in high risk populations. And second, essential item tracking in local grocery stores.
AUDIENCE
High-risk individuals that can easily be infected by the virus.
Family members of high-risk individuals
Individuals looking to limit their exposure when looking for essential items
Persona designed by Me
Persona designed by Jimsson Lim
ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
The team consisted of product designers, our team lead, Stefanie Mclaren, Jimsson Lee, and myself. My contributions included:
Ideating possible solutions to our challenges
Researching and creating a user persona
Ideating and co-prototyping app wireframes
Creating a design system for the mobile screens and presentation
Applying the design system to high-fidelity mockups
Co-designing presentation slides
SCOPE & CONSTRAINTS
The tight 3-week timeline of this project meant that we split requirements into a couple different phases.
PHASE I:
Delivery Channel workflow - creating a delivery stream between grocery wholesale/warehouses and citizens within a 75 mile radius fast tracking essential items to individuals in high risk categories (60+ years old, underlying health condition, exposure to someone having tested positive for CVOID19, pregnant, working in close contact with others, symptoms of cough, fever, shortness of breath.)
Tracking Channel workflow - A City/Zip search query for essential items. Search results are displayed on a dual map and list format showing all the supermarkets within the area, and if they carry the essential item(s) searched for. Clicking the available market will create a listing of essential items available in that store and the quantity it has. Connecting to grocery stores inventory systems for the purpose of tracking grocery item availability. This would allow users to search for essential items at local grocery stores allowing for increased confidence in item availability and potential exposure.
PHASE II:
Notification of item availability
Reserving essential items (registration required)
Picked-up and/or delivery of essential items.
Delivered by volunteers and/or postal service.
FUTURE:
Donation feature helping to fund deliveries
Essential item donation bank
Website.
OUTCOMES/WHAT I LEARNED
Looking for solutions for community-wide problems requires cooperation between businesses and industries.
This cooperation is unprecedented in some cases and requires us to look at detailed use cases and journey maps to relay the value and competitive advantage of inventive solutions and potential impact on public good.
Our group received overwhelmingly positive feedback, though we would like to spend more time testing and validating parts of this workflow with potential users.
